Will Danica Patrick revive NASCAR?
Who knows? But maybe the “GoDaddy Girl” can bring in new fans or get former fans interested again during a tough economy.
Danica Patrick will make her debut in the No. 7 GoDaddy Chevrolet this Saturday, February 13th in the Nationwide Series at Daytona. Danica started go-kart racing at 10 years old and became the only woman to win an IndyCar Series race.
"Racing in the Nationwide Series race was my goal during this entire two-month preparation process, but we wanted to make sure it was the right thing to do," Danica Patrick said. "The ARCA race was a blast, and I'm not ready for my first Daytona Speed weeks to end just yet. I want more racing."
The media attention was on Danica during the ARCA race, on Lap 54 Danica Patrick had slid through the grass and spun after contact from Nelson Piquet Jr. Danica restarted 24th and was able to recover to run as high as fifth with finishing in sixth
"I was pretty excited to go from last back to the top five again," she said. "It was really fun. I was going side-by-side with people. The GoDaddy car doesn't look very pretty, but it was fun. I bumped from the side. I bumped from the front. I got bumped from the back. I learned a lot. So I can't wait to do it again," Patrick said.
"There’s been a lot of people, a lot of really good people, that have told me it's not the right place to start," Patrick said. "It's a weird race. There's so many Cup guys out there. I don't want to be out there and make a mistake and take somebody out that's running for a championship or, God forbid, take out one of the Cup guys and making them mad right away. And it will not happen on purpose but it will be inexperience, so I just want to play it smart."
Patrick finished 26th on the speed chart at Daytona, however practice speeds don't indicate how fast the car will be in the race.
Patrick will drive part time in the Nationwide series for JR Motorsports this season, but has said her full-time ride in the IndyCar series is her top priority. She still is driven to win IndyCar's biggest event, the Indianapolis 500.
With all new media focused on the sexy Danica Patrick, NASCAR hopes she will help revive the NASCAR fans base.
